Automated gates are convenient until something starts to go wrong, and small faults have a habit of turning into bigger, more expensive ones if they're left. Here are five signs it's time to get your gate automation checked.
1. It's slower than usual. A gate that used to open smoothly but now hesitates, stutters or takes noticeably longer to open and close is often an early sign that the motor or drive mechanism is struggling.
2. It makes unusual noises. Grinding, clicking or straining sounds during operation usually point to worn components, a misaligned gate or a motor working harder than it should.
3. The remote or keypad is unreliable. If you find yourself pressing the remote several times, or the keypad only works some of the time, this could be a wiring or control board issue rather than just a flat battery.
4. The gate doesn't close fully or reverses unexpectedly. This can be a safety issue as well as an inconvenience, and is often caused by misaligned safety sensors or a fault in the control system.
5. It's stopped working altogether. The most obvious sign, but not one to ignore, especially if the gate is stuck open and your property is left unsecured.
